Back then, it occupied an exhibition area of merely 3,139 sqm., bringing together 157 exhibitors from 17 countries. In an era when imported equipment was still a rarity, the fair served as China manufacturing’s first window to the world. Many domestic visitors got their first look at foreign welding machines right here.For many veteran professionals in the welding and cutting industry, attending the show every June has become a long-standing tradition. Forty years on, the event has established itself as one of the world’s two premier specialized exhibitions for welding and cutting.

▍一、四十年，从一间展馆长成行业风向标1985年中国机械工程学会、德国焊接学会和德国埃森展览公司商定，要将世界上规模最大、影响最广的埃森焊接与切割展览会移植到中国·北京。历经三年的协商和筹备，1987年5月，展会终于盛装登场，在北京展览馆拉开帷幕。合作创办，是引进德国埃森焊接展品牌落地中国的成果，也是改革开放初期中德工业技术合作的一个标志性项目。对当年的中国焊割行业来说，它拉开的不只是一场展会的序幕，而是一条通往国际交流的路。中国产业的技术迭代、产学研交流、全球供需对接，很多都是从这里发生的。四十年里，中国从焊机的引进方，一步步走到世界焊割装备的重要供给方，这场展会几乎同步看着这一切发生。I．Forty Years: From a Single Venue to an Industry BellwetherIn 1985, the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, the German Welding Society and Messe Essen reached an agreement to bring the world’s largest and most influential SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN to Beijing, China. After three years of negotiations and preparations, the show grandly opened at the Beijing Exhibition Centre in May 1987.This joint venture brought the renowned SCHWEISSEN & SCHNEIDEN brand to China. It stands as a landmark Sino-German industrial technology cooperation project in the early days of China’s reform and opening-up. For China’s welding and cutting sector back then, the fair marked far more than the opening of an exhibition — it opened a gateway to international exchanges. Much of China’s industrial technological upgrading, industry-university-research collaboration and global supply-demand matching trace their origins to this platform.Over the past four decades, China has evolved from an importer of welding machines into a major global supplier of welding and cutting equipment. The exhibition has witnessed this transformation almost every step of the way.
