The 2nd International Geographical Indication Products Expo Held in Beijing
On September 19, the 2nd International Geographical Indication Products Expo was held at the Beijing Shunyi Guocheng International Conference and Exhibition Center. Three hundred Chinese and international guests gathered for this "GI rendezvous," creating a high-level platform for economic, trade, and cultural exchange in the China-EU geographical indication field. Four themed exhibition halls were set up, showcasing more than a hundred renowned geographical indication products from around the world, fully demonstrating the unique charm and development vitality of the international GI industry.
The event coincided with the 51st anniversary of the establishment of China-EU diplomatic relations and the 5th anniversary of the entry into force of the China-EU Geographical Indications Agreement. With the theme "Exquisite GI Products · Smart Living," this year's expo was hosted by the China-Europe Association for Technical and Economic Cooperation (CEATEC), with key support from the Delegation of the European Union to China, the Embassy of Ireland in China, and the Embassy of Croatia in China. Two Guest Countries of Honor Make Their Debut, Building a New Platform for China-EU GI Industry Exchange
This expo served as an important practical vehicle for the implementation of the China-EU Geographical Indications Agreement, which provides intellectual property protection for hundreds of distinctive GI products from both sides and powerfully promotes industrial integration and mutual connectivity. For the first time, Ireland and Croatia were designated as the two guest countries of honor, with a 2,700-square-meter premium exhibition area. Four major themed exhibition halls were created — the Two Guest Countries of Honor pavilion, the Shunyi Premium Pavilion, and the EU Pavilion — with more than a hundred high-quality Chinese and foreign GI products showcased together. Well-known domestic GI products such as Arawana Camellia Oil, Niulanshan Erguotou, Zhouzhi Kiwifruit, Yan'an Apples, and Jinhua Ham all made their appearance, fully demonstrating the profound heritage of domestic distinctive agricultural and forestry products and time-honored brands. European classic GI products such as Croatian Dinga wine, Irish liqueur, Irish whiskey, Hungarian Tokaji wine, Cypriot Commandaria, and Halloumi cheese were exhibited simultaneously. Chinese and foreign famous products were displayed on the same stage, achieving two-way connectivity and mutual learning for win-win outcomes.
Shunyi Premium Pavilion Showcases Regional Development Vitality Through Diverse Achievements
The Shunyi Premium Pavilion covers an area of approximately 210 square meters, bringing together 20 high-quality local enterprises from the district and showcasing more than 60 Shunyi geographical indication specialty products. The exhibition area is divided into four sections: export products, specialty agricultural and sideline products, cultural and creative products, and investment services, comprehensively displaying Shunyi's industrial strength, regional products, cultural heritage, and investment environment.
The export products section focuses on high-end intelligent manufacturing products such as precision instruments and AI interactive robots, showcasing Shunyi's achievements in advanced manufacturing and the digital intelligence industry, and fully demonstrating the hardcore technological strength of "Shopping in Shunyi." The specialty agricultural and sideline products section brings together local famous products such as Yanjing Beer, Niulanshan Baijiu, and high-quality fruits, vegetables, and fresh produce. A tasting experience session was set up on site, allowing visitors to immersively experience the flavors of Shunyi and vividly interpreting the unique charm of "Tasting in Shunyi." The cultural and creative products section gathers distinctive cultural and creative products such as aromatherapy bracelets, rosewood ornaments, and reed paintings. At the same time, intangible cultural heritage interactive experiences such as fire-painted gourds and lacquer fan making were offered, vividly presenting the profound cultural and tourism connotations of "Traveling in Shunyi." The investment services section displays various investment promotion brochures and is staffed with professional personnel to conduct on-site policy presentations and project promotions, systematically introducing Shunyi's location resources, industrial foundation, development endowments, and high-quality business environment, and fully releasing the development opportunities of "Investing in Shunyi."
Legal and Brand Seminar: Jointly Exploring the Path of China-EU Geographical Indication Protection and Development
In parallel with the event, the China-EU Geographical Indication Legal and Brand Seminar was also held, focusing on topics such as intellectual property protection, cross-border rights protection, and the application of international rules, with more than a hundred industry representatives engaging in in-depth discussions. The seminar was co-hosted by the EU Working Committee of the China-Europe Association for Technical and Economic Cooperation and the Delegation of the European Union to China. Multiple Chinese and foreign guests from university law faculties, diplomatic missions in China, industry associations and chambers of commerce, law firms, and relevant EU institutions shared and discussed topics including legal protection of geographical indications, brand cultivation and development, and cross-border industrial practices, offering suggestions for the standardized and internationalized development of the China-EU geographical indication industry.
European Envoys Visit Shunyi — "From Dublin to Zagreb": Discussing Cooperation and Appreciating Multiculturalism
Geographical indications are not only quality labels and regional calling cards for local specialty products but also cultural bonds connecting China and the world. On the evening of September 19, the Special Symposium on the 5th Anniversary of the Entry into Force of the China-EU Geographical Indications Agreement and the European Envoys Visit Shunyi event, "From Dublin to Zagreb," became an important highlight of this year's conference. Ambassador Jorge Toledo of the European Union to China, Ambassador Nicholas O'Brien of Ireland to China (holder of the EU rotating presidency), Ambassador Dario Mihelin of Croatia to China, Zhang Songwen, Cultural Ambassador for China-Serbia relations and renowned actor, and more than a hundred Chinese and European envoys and representatives from various sectors gathered together to exchange and discuss geographical indication intellectual property protection, cross-border trade circulation, distinctive industry empowerment, and mutual learning among civilizations, building industry consensus, promoting the two-way circulation of high-quality geographical indication products between China and foreign countries, and injecting new momentum into China-EU practical economic and trade cooperation.
It is understood that in recent years, Shunyi District has positioned itself as the capital's gateway to opening up, continuously advancing the deep integrated development of port, industry, and city, steadily enriching its international development foundation, comprehensively enhancing its open carrying capacity and internationalized environment, and connecting with global markets through a series of high-level international exchange activities. The landing of this International Geographical Indication Products Expo in Shunyi is a vivid manifestation of the region's open vitality. Using GI products as a bond, Shunyi continues to build platforms for China-foreign economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchange, gathering global distinctive resources, deepening international industrial connectivity, and striving to create a new highland for the capital's opening up.
